Financial Controller - Consulting

Davies is currently seeking a Financial Controller to join its team on a permanent basis within our Finance Team in London.

The opportunity:

Reporting to the Head of Finance – Consulting, lead the Financial Control team through a period of transition to ensure accurate reporting to the business and group and ensuring suitable controls are in place to mitigate against financial risk.

Manage and lead the Financial Control team based in London, Madrid, and India. Including taking ownership of their coaching, performance management and appraisals.

The role will encompass all Consulting entities across all regions, owning the month end close, statutory returns, tax compliance, local VAT, management accounts, cash flow management and banking as well as overseeing the AR and AP functions.

Alongside the Senior FP&A Manager, manage the ongoing review & optimisation of monthly and annual financial reporting, including management accounts and board packs.

There is an opportunity for the individual to shape the Financial control department and really make a difference, working to strengthen the control environment and supporting with the implementation of new systems.

You will:

  • Work with the Head of Finance to identify, assess, mitigate, and monitor financial risks faced by the business.
  • With financial risks in mind, review, assess and improve the financial reporting control environment, including establishing relevant policies and procedures and ensuring compliance.
  • Manage 4 direct reports.
  • Responsible for the accurate and timely reporting of management accounts across multiple entities.
  • Build relationships with Practice Managing Partners and support the FP&A team in ensuring suitable and accurate reporting is delivered.
  • Lead the audit process with support from team members delivering the annual statutory financial statements and liaising with external auditors.
  • Liaising with and building relationships with internal and external stakeholders across the organisation.
  • Cash flow and treasury management, including AP and AR management and credit control oversight.
  • Responsible for working with HR to carry out payroll reviews and provide approvals.
  • Overseeing the completion and submission of accurate and on time VAT submissions to HMRC.
  • Deputise for Head of Finance when required.
  • Banking administration including payment authorisation.
  • Take the lead for the Microsoft D365 FinOps accounting system roll out, ensuring controls and processes are built and the finance team is appropriately trained.
  • Coach team members in development opportunities and identify development needs.

Your experience:

  • Qualified accountant 5+ years (preferably ACA or ACCA).
  • Experience in a financial controller role - 3-5 years.
  • Audit experience desired but not mandatory.
  • Strong people management & personal development skills, including the ability to coach and mentor junior staff. Must have high emotional intelligence and the ability to solve challenges at all levels.
  • Experience in identifying and implementing control improvements.
  • Advanced technical skills in statutory & management accounting.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft applications, in particular Excel.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects & processes simultaneously.
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to distil complex technical information into clear simple messages.
  • High level of analytical skills.
