SHE Advisor

Reporting to the site SHE Manager, the SHE Advisor will be responsible for promoting and upholding a positive health and safety culture throughout the business, focusing on both manufacturing and service. The role will also be responsible for keeping employees safe, preventing harm and ill health and helping to achieve SHE KPI targets.

This role will develop, maintain and protect SHE standards within the business in accordance with current legislation and company policies and procedures. Ensure the business, managers and employees always demonstrate compliance with all SHE legislation and that SHE policies and practices are adhered to in the factory.

Working alongside managers, employees, site operatives and safety representatives to facilitate day-to-day SHE operations and contribute to the planning, implementing, monitoring and reviewing of protective and preventative safety measures.

Main Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the factory operations management team.
  • Provide specialist advice for all matters relating to the statutory requirements concerning SHE factors to Managers, employees and safety representatives.
  • Implement and maintain procedures to meet the requirements of ISO14001 and ISO45001. Ensure compliance with the standards across the business.
  • Support with capturing SHE Statistics and data reporting.
  • Collect data and populate KPI's, ensure targets are met and areas for concern are immediately escalated.
  • Work alongside the quality team to ensure compliance with quality systems, including issuing and tracking corrective action requests.
  • Progress and close actions arising from internal or external SHE audits in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate with the SHE Legal Advisor to support with any work-related claims.
  • Promote a positive SHE culture and drive continuous improvement within the business.
  • Develop and implement SHE policies and procedures to support the business.
  • Support HR to ensure legal compliance with health surveillance requirements, working with the Occupational Health provider to ensure timely completion of medical assessments.
  • Assist managers and supervisors in the development and maintenance of risk assessments, ensuring these remain up to date, with an aim to eliminate and reduce risk to as low as is reasonably practicable.
  • Assess training requirements throughout the business and deliver SHE training to employees, including toolbox talks. Lead health and safety initiatives, including chairing meetings.
  • Assist with accident and incident investigations, provide reports and identify root causes. Implementing action plans to prevent re-occurrence and share lessons learnt across the wider group.
  • Advise on a range of specialist areas, including fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery and occupational diseases.
  • Monitor and control PPE. Ensure items issued comply with required safety standards and are being used correctly.
  • Ensure regulatory requirements such as COSHH, RIDDOR and fire plans are met.
  • Report company Green House Gas data on a quarterly basis. Support the business Net Zero ambitions. Communicate and maintain compliance with the companies Sustainability Policy and support ESG initiatives.
  • Ensure all data protection activities of personal and special category data; pertaining to current employees, customers and all other external stakeholders, are done so in line with the company's data protection (GDPR) policy.
  • Accountable for the adequate data protection activities and awareness levels within their area responsibility, in line with the data protection (GDPR) policy.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • TechIOSH,or working towards with relevant experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • NEBOSH/IOSH/IEMA or CIEH.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience with BS EN ISO 9001, ISO14001 and ISO45001.
  • Experience performing SHE audits
  • Excellent understanding of current SHE laws and legislation.
  • Previous experience of working with a SHE management system.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication. Must be competent with the English language.
  • A good understanding of fundamental Mechanical and Electrical principles is beneficial but not essential
  • Previous SHE experience in a manufacturing environment beneficial.
  • Strong IT skills, proficient in all Microsoft Office programs.
  • Experience leading, planning and managing projects ensuring on-time delivery.
