Web Designer

Posted by Torpedo Group.

Location: Cassington, Oxfordshire
Contract: Permanent, Full time
Salary: Competitve

We are looking for a web designer to join the Torpedo UX team. As the ideal candidate, you will be demonstrably passionate about pushing the creative boundaries, with a web-based portfolio showcasing your skills. You have experience designing in the browser using web standards HTML, CSS and JavaScript. You are immersed in design best-practice and know your theory inside-out: gestalt design principles, typography, layout and colour theory. You know your way around modern responsive web standards and the web accessibility initiative. You are well versed in modular component-based design systems and whilst you prefer to get straight under the hood with code, Figma is a core part of your design collaboration toolset.

You prefer to use real content in your designs, accepting that the people maintaining the content are less likely to have an appreciation for pixel-perfect layout. You always design for edge cases, errors and optimise for performance. You have plenty of experience designing for content management systems such as Wordpress and Drupal. You have adopted a mobile-first approach to designing web interfaces. You love being a part of a multi-disciplinary team that includes UX designers, developers, content designers and digital project managers.

You care deeply about user experience and carefully balance the need to meet and exceed client expectations using bleeding-edge animations with highly accessible and usable interfaces. You can clearly and confidently explain your rationale for making design decisions and accept that it is often more important to get something out than to get it perfect. You're not afraid to get out of your comfort zone and push the creative boundaries.

You have attended industry events such as informal meetups, hack-days, and conferences. You may have written blog articles and comments to contribute to the community discussion and are keen to share your learnings with others. You actively seek feedback on your performance and are an advocate for continuous improvement.
