The City of Liverpool College is the only general FE college in the city and the largest FE college in Liverpool City Region.
It offers the widest, most diverse vocational curriculum in the region and ranges from entry up to degree and post-graduate levels and currently serves more than a third of all the 16-18 year olds in Liverpool and educates almost 12,000 learners each year, with all courses being delivered to the highest standard of learning.

The support staff at the college play a vital part in ensuring that these courses are delivered to the standard of excellence we hold ourselves to, whether through supporting the students directly in their learning, or indirectly through business support roles that keep the day to functions of the college running smoothly.

The Head of Apprenticeships will work with the the Director of Apprenticeships and STEM to ensure the successful delivery of a broad range of apprenticeship standards and work-based learning programmes, including the development of employer responsive full cost training solutions in line the college for business strategic priority. The Head of Apprenticeships will also work closely with the Commercial Director and Business Development Unit, maximising growth of strong apprenticeship standards and developing new provision where appropriate to meet regional needs.

Working closely with the Director, the post holder will be responsible for the operational management and quality assurance of the end-to-end delivery of apprenticeships ensuring that robust quality assurance and improvement systems are in place at each stage of the employer and apprentice journey. Directly responsible for the robust tracking of apprenticeship progress using an e-portfolio system the post holder will ensure apprenticeship progress is accurately recorded and that timely interventions are put in place and actioned to bring apprentices back on track if required. The post holder will oversee gateway preparation and end point assessment practices to ensure the best possible learning experience for apprentices along with high-quality outcomes.

Responsible for the management of teaching and learning observations and assessment practices within the apprenticeship delivery team and for the coaching and mentoring of staff to improve their performance. The role includes directly carrying out such activities both in the classroom and the workplace to ensure that curriculum intent is understood by employers and staff and that quality assurance and improvement systems, and processes meet college standards and Ofsted framework requirements.

The post holder will support the development and implementation of quality improvement plans across the wider business unit and will provider operational support to cross college curriculum teams as required to ensure the effective and successful delivery and recording of the off the job training element and qualifications where appropriate. Responsibilities include assessing and reporting performance to the Director of Apprenticeships and STEM against apprenticeship funding rules for off the job, available benchmarking data (e.g., QAR data and NART data). Maximising career and progression opportunities for learners is a key focus of the role as well as overall achievement outcomes and delivering ongoing improvements in other key quality assurance measures such as learner and employer satisfaction ratings.

The Head of Apprenticeships role includes line management for a designated group of staff within the apprenticeship unit to ensure high levels of performance and continuous professional development. The role will also include providing cover as required for staff absences or where high caseloads exist.
