Hardware break-fix engineer

Your new company and role

This role is with a managed service provider, who are currently working with a major finance sector client based in Edinburgh. They require a hardware break-fix engineer to assist them on a 10-month contract initially.Pending necessary vetting, this role should take you from October 2024 through to August 2025.You should have no issues with travel, and have a valid driver's license, due to required travel a few times per year for audits.

Role responsibilities

  • Hardware break-fix supported servers (few left in the field)
  • All tasks and support tickets raised and managed in Service Now
  • Parts only account (order a part, and we attend to fit/fix)
  • Plus, a part & mobile engineer repair account (order part and engineer - we no longer have standby or out of hours with our role)
  • Servers can be investigated by HP server manager, and we use HP ILO access to check/verify issues as standard - infrequent since more servers have been virtualised to main DC sites.
  • Standard hours but can be applied with flexibility (i.e. start early and finish early for distant sites so you can arrive at 8am etc. The daily shift can be 8-4 or 10-6 as the contract required 8am to 6pm coverage
  • Our site knowledge and awareness is called on by both DCM team and teams/managers to assist DCM support of the remote sites in our areas - current DS team locations are South East, within M25 and North West
  • Site decoms/exit, managed by our team in co-op with project managers for, all kit separated into what is to be retained by the networks team, which is then to be securely disposed of or any data holding devices (USB/HDD/etc) needs to be wiped/shredded and some equipment will be designated to be RDC recycled,
  • New sites: we perform the 1st

site audit - adding the devices, details and information into the Asset Point system. We also support DCM by adding the relevant site/TIR room signage and labels and performing power test etc.

  • Service Now and email support of DCM tasks related to TIR rooms, assign rack space, report site and TIR room/cabinet data for project managers, assist and support DCM team with the remote sites we are allocated.
  • 6 months planned regular audits of all IT inventory and storage in our area. That requires us to visit every 6 months to do a full audit of our sites, every TIR, wiring closet and storage area under our control.
