Overview:

My client is seeking an experienced civil estimator to manage opportunities within their minor works unit. Reporting directly to the Head of Civil Engineering your day-to-day role will include the management of minor works opportunities within the Environmental Services division across their portfolio of customers in defence, industrial, petrochemical and FM companies.

The main work packages will be priced and quoted by the estimator from information received from their on-site operatives, with the individual managing the sales reporting process within the CRM system from initial opportunity to either a win or lose close status. In addition, the estimator will be responsible for compiling short works duration programmes, BoQ for plant and materials packaged ready for the delivery unit within the company to execute.

Secondary to the management of the minor works packages, the estimator will work closely alongside the Civil engineering team on preparing costs and programmes for works outside of the minor works stream, this can include site visits, drawings and tender reviews.

The Civil Estimator must be familiar with all aspects of civil engineering and construction, have excellent analytical skills, and have the ability to understand complex projects. Within this role you will need to communicate with the commercial team around timelines, progress and any challenges so they can manage client expectations to provide a seamless customer experience.

Your Responsibilities:

Manage minor works quoting and preparation of work packages.

Maintaining Company Sales activity systems and weekly/monthly reporting

Make site visits as needed to confirm the scope of work in association with the civil engineering team.

Supporting the Head of Civils and team in analysing RFPs and tenders, deciding on the most profitable yielding work and setting priorities in bidding.

Review project drawings and specifications to determine the scope of work.

Prepare quantity take-off from drawings and specifications.

Identify labour, equipment, and material requirements.

Prepare project cost estimate which utilises company labour and equipment cost information.

Prepare regular project progress reports

Keep the CRM up to date

Forecast revenue generation based on expected close dates utilising the CRM system and associated data.

Work with the Project Managers to manage change orders and capture CVIs.

Generate change order proposals as requested by Project Managers.

Supply chain coordination to ensure the most competitive pricing is secured.

Serve as a brand advocate and ambassador in every interaction with clients and the public. Maintain composure, professionalism and objectivity in difficult situations and effectively resolve conflict without escalating tension.

Solicit multiple quotes to be used to select the most suitable offer and coordinate subcontractors and suppliers for labour, materials and equipment.

Knowledge of estates and management services.

Quality Management - Making sure construction projects meet agreed technical standards.

Qualifications and Skills:

An in-depth understanding of the construction industry.

IT Skills (MS Outlook, Word, Excel & Project)

Sound understanding of the current CDM, Asbestos regulations, Temporary Works, Confined Space, LOLER, and PUWER regulations.

An understanding of legal documentation surrounding construction (JCT & NEC).

The ability to use your initiative.

Good verbal communication skills.

Strong Written skills.

Basic AUTOCAD experience.

Full UK driving licence.

The right to work in the UK is essential.
