Autism Support Mentor

The School
A village primary school in Gloucester. Small classes allow for highly individualised teaching. Staff collaborate to ensure children thrive emotionally as well as academically.

The Role
This is a full-time role supporting a child in Key Stage 1 who has Autism and is non-verbal. They are currently working below age related expectations in all areas of learning. A significant part of this role will focus on developing effective communication strategies. Most of the work will take place outside of the classroom, delivering support that focuses on the child's identified targets.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one support for individual child
  • Adapt to child's changing needs
  • Deliver targeted interventions
  • Follow guidance and planning from class teacher and SENDCo
  • Ensure safety and welfare is maintained
  • Regularly feedback to class teacher/SENDCo

Essential Criteria

  • Knowledge of Autism
  • Previous experience supporting children or young adults with Autism

Desirable Criteria

  • Previous experience using alternative communication methods
  • Autism/SEND qualification
