Head of Finance

The Head of Finance will take overall responsibility for all financial reporting, control and company legal requirements, whilst managing cash flow and internal and external stakeholder relationships. You will lead a Finance team of 5, and play a key role in the running of the business as part of the Senior Leadership Team.

Client Details

Moda in Pelle are a footwear retail business with strong trading margins and growth trajectory. They trade via ecommerce, retail stores and a growing third party and wholesale arm to the business, both in the UK and Internationally.

Description

Key Accountabilities

Statutory and Group Reporting:

  • Planning for the year end audit report and quarterly reporting
  • Determining the timetable for audit work and communicating internally and externally
  • Statutory consolidation of the reporting packs
  • Liaising with external auditors and any other external advisors as required
  • Dealing with any matters arising out of audit work
  • Completion and filing for all the UK stat accounts for the UK Companies
  • Implementation of any accounting policy changes
  • Supporting the wider Finance team on technical accounting issues

Cash/Treasury:

  • Authorising all PO's in line with budgets
  • Providing weekly cash flow forecasts to CEO with associated scenario planning
  • Ensuring full compliance with any banking requirements (daily/weekly cash reports), reconciliations and other information requests
  • Maintaining relationships with the banking teams and liaising with any external advisors as required including audits.
  • Maintaining cash forecast and cash plan and dealing with all matters arising
  • Authorising payments.
  • Ensuring company compliance with expenses and credit card policies
  • Ensuring that appropriate FX forecasts are in place and that the business is hedged as necessary to minimise exposure working with external partners.
  • Maintaining relationships with working capital/invoice finance providers.
  • Remaining personally up to date at all times on any legislation changes and ensuring compliance
  • Completing the cash flow for the forecast/budget cycles
  • Maintenance of statutory books and records, including filing of annual returns and any other requests
  • Completion of all statistical surveys
  • Dealing with any ad-hoc legal queries, and liaising with external legal advisors
  • Running internal monthly payroll, meeting all legislation requirements and changes.

Insurance:

  • Be responsible for the day to day running of the insurance programme.
  • Follow up on claims raised and collating information required.
  • Liaise with the Insurers in respect to any changes within the business.
  • Alongside the company's brokers undertake the annual insurance renewal ensuring best value for lowest risk.

Tax:

  • Attend to any ad-hoc issues that arise and liaise with HMRC on any matters arising including investigations
  • Ensure compliance with HMRC
  • Understand the impact of and deal with any legislation changes

Balance sheet and Month End:

  • Ensure appropriate reconciliations have been performed for all balance sheet accounts.
  • Understand the ageing of the ledgers and ensure that there are appropriate provisions at quarter ends, working with the credit control team to reduce the ageing of the ledger and resolve any issues
  • Provide comprehensive ownership, accountability and oversight of all balance sheet reconciliations and provide CEO with complete visibility of all current, emerging and future risks and opportunities
  • Have ownership and oversight of GRNI, duty, freight and FX controls along with associated reporting

Controls and Processes:

  • Develop, maintain and monitor any processes and controls relevant to Finance and ensure adherence throughout the business
  • Be proactive looking for savings in time and cost in Finance and also across the wider business

Profile

  • ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualification
  • 4 years experience in similar role.
  • Must be able to effectively lead, support and visibly develop direct reports
  • Running internal payroll and legislation
  • Full understanding of UK VAT legislation
  • Full understanding of UK corporate entity statutory requirements
  • Must be an expert in Excel and confident of own ability
  • Must have experience of analysing and interpreting large amounts of operational and finance data and have the ability to translate this into compact and meaningful audience-appropriate summaries
  • Naturally inquisitive and challenging with exceptional communication skills

  • Takes complete accountability for own workload and output to ensure work is on time, accurate, appropriately presented and communicated
  • Ability to understand how to communicate financial issues to non-financial staff
