Head of Business Intelligence/Commercial Finance

Posted by Coyne & Associates Limited.

Brain in Hand has retained Coyne & Associates to appoint a Head of Business Intelligence. This is a newly created role in our structure providing essential, proactive insight and expertise on performance to the Executive Leadership Team. We're looking for someone who can lead and coach a team that brings together and makes sense of financial and non-financial intelligence. To become our exceptional Head of Business Intelligence, you'll need a strong background in commercial finance along with a proven grasp of data intelligence and analytics.

Who are Brain in Hand?

We have ambitious goals to make the world a fairer and more accessible place, supporting the neurodiverse community and those with mental health challenges. We're a UK-based digital healthcare company with a strong footprint in education and workplace support, local authority social care teams and NHS trusts. We deliver a combination of human and digital support to end users with a range of needs, including many who are autistic or who have neurological differences or mental health challenges. As a rapidly scaling business, with ambitions to revolutionise how support is delivered we need to move fast and think differently, we're building a team that is excited about that challenge.

Where you'll work

We trust our teams to work remotely, from anywhere in the UK. That said, the Finance and Performance Team meet periodically in Exeter to collaborate and support one another so you'll need to be willing to do the same. There might be times when you'll need to travel to other UK locations for meetings or events but these will be planned ahead of time.

Key Stakeholders

Reporting to the Director of Finance and Performance, you'll be a key member of our Extended Leadership Team (ELT). You'll need to rapidly build relationships with your ELT colleagues to collaborate on and deliver the initiatives and actions your data analysis and insights identify. The ELT, and your peer to peer support, includes representatives from Sales, Marketing, Research, Coaching, Customer Support, People and Product Development. You'll need to bring clarity to your insights and ensure the ELT are engaged around your proposals in order to succeed. The Exec Team will be there to coach and enable you and challenge your thinking.

What success looks like in this role

  • Performance Insights drives improved decisions: your facilitation of our monthly Performance insights meetings for Exec and ELT leads to consistent and appropriate use of insights and improved and shared understanding of our data.
  • Annual Budget process enhances Strategy: your leadership of budget setting cycles leads to better strategic thinking, planning and more accurate budgets that ensure alignment and buy-in across teams.
  • Lead an optimisation project: identify and lead a cross-functional project that optimises performance - e.g. cost of sales drivers - that improves efficiency whilst continuing to meet the high levels of coaching standards demanded.
  • Positive 360 feedback : working effectively in cross-functional virtual teams with positive 360 feedback from peers and direct teams, which cites demonstrable evidence of behaviours that support our values

What you'll bring to Brain in Hand

We'd love someone to come on board who brings these skills and experiences to complement our talented team:

  • CIMA or ACA Qualified Accountant with c5+ years post qualification experience
  • Strong technical expertise in analytics tools and technologies, in particular PowerBI and SQL user
  • Knowledge of accounting software (we use Xero) and relational databases
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, able to inspire and motivate teams to drive high performance
  • Business Partnering experience, enabling non-financial managers and leaders to engage with the business' performance
  • An appreciation of our users needs and the challenges they may face in society

What you can expect

We're scaling fast, we work at pace and we work hard. We actively support our colleagues to relish the pace, challenge and ambition of Brain in Hand, so you can expect:
