I am currently working closely with a lovely primary school in DN9 who are seeking a dedicated caretaker to join their school. The role is going to be either permanent initially or will be 12 weeks temporary and then you will move to a contract with the school.
The caretaker position is part-time and will be for 20 hours per week, ideally split shifts (2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon).
The school would like someone who has transferable skills and who would be a reliable and dedicated member of the team.
Day to Day of the Role:
- Report necessary repairs and maintenance work and direct contractors to the site, monitoring their work within set procedures.
- Perform maintenance and repairs to property, fixtures, fittings, equipment, and furniture, including minor improvement jobs and internal decorating.
- Replace bulbs, fuses, and ensure that drains and gullies are free-flowing and clean.
- Operate heating plant to maintain required temperatures and hot water availability.
- Prepare for school and after-school activities, including setting up and clearing furniture and equipment.
- Receive deliveries and distribute items throughout the school.
- Carry out emergency tasks such as dealing with fire, flood, or accidents.
- Ensure the security of buildings, contents, and grounds, acting as the primary key holder.
- Respond to unplanned needs of the school, including emergencies and routine security arrangements.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience in premises work, preferably with a trade background.
- Good working knowledge of buildings, estates, and associated health and safety legislation.
- Committed, reliable, adaptable, and self-motivated with a ‘can do' attitude.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Good team player willing to learn and undertake training.
