This is a permanent Outwood contract, with a posting to Freeston for 2024/25. We would be hoping to confirm this as a permanent Freeston contract for September 2025, or a permanent contract in a neighbouring Outwood school.

We are an 11-16 academy, based in Normanton, Wakefield in West Yorkshire. We are seeking an excellent classroom practitioner who has the ability to motivate and inspire students whilst developing a love of learning.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a teacher who really wants to make a difference to the lives of young people. Our single goal is 'Students First' and you will be joining a strong team of professionals working to this sole aim.
The English department is made up of 8 teachers, who believe in making sure our students are given a wide breadth and depth of knowledge across both language and literature that not only sets them up for excellent GCSE results but also life beyond the classroom.

  • You will want to strive and deliver a consistently good standard of English teaching.
  • To ensure strong rates of progress for all student through the planning and preparation of high-quality English lessons which engage, motivate and support learners
  • To adhere to Outwood Academies lesson expectations
  • To consistently apply the Academy Behaviour policy to support all colleagues in establishing high standards of behaviour from students, and in order that students have parity of treatment and expectations in all areas of the academy
  • In consultation with the Curriculum Leader for English, contribute to the planning, design and production of good quality teaching materials and resources
  • To promote the development and acquisition of literacy skills, including reading, writing, and ensure that all student feedback is timely and effective
