Assistant Curriculum Manager ESOL

This role has a starting salary of £17,865 per annum based on a 18 hour working week. The full time equivalent salary is £35,730 per annum.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a driven and enthusiastic Assistant Curriculum Manager ESOL to lead a busy, dynamic and growing department that delivers ESOL Skills for Life courses, ranging from Pre-Entry Level to Level 1. The provision is delivered face-to-face during the daytime at our main office. We also offer remote classes in the evening. This position is specifically focused on ESOL Skills for Life, which aims to support learners' integration and practical language skills for daily living, rather than EFL (English as a Foreign Language), which is primarily focused on academic or travel purposes.

About the Role

As the Assistant Curriculum Manager, you will work alongside another Assistant Curriculum Manager to lead our team of part-time ESOL tutors. Together, you will demonstrate a 'can-do' attitude and the ability to generate high expectations, enthusiasm, and commitment from all staff.

You will report to the Curriculum Manager, who is responsible for ESOL, English and Maths, and you will be jointly responsible for the ESOL Skills for Life provision and delivery. You will be expected to ensure that the quality of teaching and learning continually improves, in line with the standards set by Ofsted and as outlined in the Service's Quality Framework. You will work in accordance with local and national agendas, ensuring that the targeted course offerings are inclusive, aimed at raising aspirations, and providing support to those in need.

You will manage the selection, appointment, performance, and support of tutors, and you will devise and implement a training programme to address tutor development needs.

This is an exciting opportunity to:

  • Support the Curriculum Manager in organising and further developing a broad course offer, guided by the curriculum intent, to enhance the ESOL provision across Surrey
  • Lead and develop a team of tutors to deliver outstanding learning experiences, both remotely and face-to-face
  • Collaborate with another Assistant Curriculum Manager to support in the ongoing programme planning process by growing and managing a mixed remote and face-to-face delivery programme
  • Liaise with the Exams Office to ensure the smooth running of ESOL Skills for Life Exams across Surrey
  • Accurately place applicants on ESOL Skills for Life courses through an Initial Assessment process.

Travel within Surrey to our other centres and venues will be required, therefore the post-holder must have the willingness and ability to travel around the county to meet the demands of the role.. There will be occasional evening and weekend work. This role will be based at one of our centres and this location can be discussed further at interview.

Shortlisting Criteria

To be considered for shortlisting for this position, your application will clearly evidence the following:

  • A teaching qualification, relevant experience of teaching ESOL Skills for Life to adults, and familiarity with a formal observation process aligned to an Ofsted inspection framework
  • Experience of managing team performance, using your initiative, prioritising workloads, and meeting deadlines
  • Experience of successfully working within an Ofsted inspection framework to ensure a high standard of provision and care for learners
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and IT skills
