Reed is currently seeking an Assistant Accountant to join a family-run material supplier in Andover. This role is crucial for supporting the day-to-day operations of the Finance department, ensuring efficient and seamless financial management.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Own all aspects of Purchase Ledger transactions using Merlin software.
  • Manage the setup of new suppliers and the posting of supplier invoices.
  • Handle supplier payments through BACS and reconcile staff expenses.
  • Conduct VAT reconciliation and quarterly submissions.
  • Perform bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts, including interpreting and analysing variances.
  • Post accruals and prepayment journals, and close monthly and yearly nominal ledgers.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to drive best practices and process efficiencies.
  • Maintain strong relationships with the purchasing team and other business units.
  • Recommend operational improvements and ensure accurate month-end reporting across multiple legal entities.
  • Assist in month-end analysis and commentary, maintaining financial control and compliance.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience in a similar Assistant Accountant role.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Experience using Merlin or similar financial applications.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • AAT or equivalent qualification or qualified by experience.
  • Not currently studying.

Education & Experience:

  • A-Level or equivalent (preferred).
  • At least 3 years of accounting experience (preferred).
