Duration: 12 Months

Location: London Hybrid (2 days a week in office)

Rate: £550 - £750 per day (umbrella)

Our client, a leading organisation in the Utilities industry, is seeking a talented and experienced Strategic Portfolio Manager to join their team. This is a temporary position for a period of 12 months, offering the opportunity to make a significant impact on the organisation's strategic planning and investment management.

As the Strategic Portfolio Manager, you will play a crucial role in the development and execution of the Business/IT Strategy. Collaborating closely with the Business Entity and IT Delivery Centres, you will drive sustainable change and ensure the delivery of reliable and secure services and solutions.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Strategic Planning: Create and maintain a strategy that aligns organisational actions, plans, and resources with business objectives. Provide support and guidance to stakeholders, developing and communicating plans to drive forward the strategy and related change planning.
  • Enterprise and Business Architecture: Align the organisation's technology strategy with its business mission, strategy, and processes. Determine effective business processes and specify improvements in technology, information, data practises, and more.
  • Innovation: Identify, prioritise, incubate, and exploit opportunities provided by information, communication, and digital technologies. Manage the innovation pipeline, develop innovation tools and processes, and encourage creative ideas and learning from failures.
  • Demand Management: Analyse and proactively manage business demand for new services or modifications. Implement demand management analysis and planning activities, maintain a register of business requests, and review new business proposals.
  • Portfolio Management: Develop and apply a management framework to define and deliver a portfolio of programmes, projects, and ongoing services. Engage and influence senior managers, provide leadership in planning, scheduling, monitoring, and reporting on portfolio-related activities.
  • Stakeholder Relationship Management: Influence stakeholder attitudes, decisions, and actions for mutual benefit. Identify communications and relationship needs, facilitate open communication, and act as a single point of contact.
  • Investment Appraisal: Assess the attractiveness of possible investments or projects. Lead investment appraisal activities and advise on investment appraisal approaches.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Can successfully operate at 'C' level and form strong relationships across all levels of the Business Entity.
  • Excellent leadership, relationship, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated track record of developing IT programmes and driving business change.
  • Experience in IT strategic planning, investment management, and programme planning.
  • Good understanding of current and emerging technology best practises and trends.
  • Ability to thrive in a heavily matrixed organisation and deliver results.
  • Strong understanding of financial management, benefits management, and realisation linked to business results.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Degree-level qualification in an analytical or business-oriented discipline.
  • Relevant industry certification such as Managing Successful Programmes or Prince 2.
  • MBA or equivalent graduate degree preferred.
