Your new school
Hays are recruiting a Full-Time Teaching Assistant in Rhondda Cynon Taf for a Special Educational Needs School which caters for pupils aged 3-19. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a caring and supporting school with a highly regarded teaching staff and leadership team. The role itself will involve working with a small class of students aged 8-10 with ASD and related additional learning needs and some aspects of challenging behaviour. The school are looking to expand their facilities in line with their growing number of students and teaching staff. This involves welcoming new, passionate, and committed members to the team. The current staff are eager to support as best they can, offering advice and encouragement to any new staff. The school are proud to create and maintain a supportive, warm, and creative environment for pupils and staff alike.

Your new role
The role is confirmed long-term for September Start, working 5 days a week. However, the school are also interested in bringing in part-time staff, as well as those available immediately. Duties relating to this role include but are not limited to:

  • Working with a small class of students aged 8-10 with ASD and related additional learning needs and some aspects of challenging behaviour.
  • Working closely as part of a positive and welcoming teaching team.
  • Demonstrating high levels of patience, empathy, and care when dealing with potentially challenging behaviour.
  • Supporting the implementation and delivery of a lesson plan, ensuring that students are engaged in their work.
  • Creating and maintaining a safe, positive, and enjoyable learning environment.

What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this role, it is required that you possess at least 40 days of relevant experience working or volunteering within a school or with children over the course of the last 2 - 3 years. Some of the key attributes and skills needed for this role include empathy, calmness, respect, and patience. Further desired traits include responsiveness, problem-solving skills, commitment, and a high degree of motivation. Team Teach training or related SEN qualifications are desired but not required.
