About the Role
Base Location: We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will, however need your base 'home' location to be one of our SSEN offices at Reading, Oxford, Swindon, Bristol or Melksham
Salary: £47,600 - £71,600 + car / car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

We're expanding our Large Capital Delivery teams with a new Lead Design Engineer for our £4bn RIIO ED2 business plan in SEPD Distribution areas. You'll manage the design team handling various projects from 11kV to 132kV schemes. You will ensure cost-effective solutions are realised from feasibility design through to detailed design packs and design approvals. Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing a large project design portfolio, coordinating resources, ensuring quality control of design outputs in accordance with SSEN policies, and approving designs for efficiency.
- Enhancing productivity and customer service excellence by overseeing daily design team operations, optimizing costs, and improving contractor performance.
- Identifying improvement opportunities, setting performance targets, and managing KPIs within the broader Engineering Design team.
- Effectively liaising with our contractor design partners to ensure design delivery aligns with programme schedules and budget constraints.
What do I need?
- Electrical Design degree (preferred), or HNC with relevant experience.
- Strong people management skills.
- Engineering design expertise, and proficiency in design governance and CDM.
- You should be able to deliver quality work on tight schedules, excel in teamwork, and possess excellent negotiation and problem-solving abilities.
