About the Role (a proper one, not just a title)
This one's for someone who enjoys sorting things out. The kind of person who's just as comfortable rolling their sleeves up on a chunky renewal as they are running a 1-2-1 or leading a team meeting that doesn't send people to sleep.
This is a brand-new position, created off the back of real growth (the good kind - not the "do more with less" kind). You'll be leading an established team of Commercial Account Handlers while also looking after your own portfolio of larger, more complex risks. It's a rare blend of hands-on client work and strategic team leadership - and if you get a buzz from seeing a team you've enhanced smashing targets, you'll be right at home.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
- Managing and mentoring a team of around 8 Commercial Handlers (with more joining the ranks as the business grows).
- Owning a portfolio of large and technical commercial clients, across a mixed book.
- Allocating work across the team - making sure everyone's got enough on without being buried alive in renewals.
- Running 1-to-1s, team briefings and development plans - coaching people, not micromanaging them.
- Creating structure and rhythm across the team - this business wants someone who brings clarity and calm to the day-to-day chaos.
- Reporting into the Directors, with a say in how the operation evolves over time.
- Acturis proficiency is preferred.
The Right Person Will Be:
- A natural organiser - the type who books the family holidays, ensures the packing is done in a timely manner, and may even have an itinerary prepared.
- Someone who genuinely enjoys leading people - not just ticking the "management" box to get promoted.
- Comfortable handling complex commercial insurance risks - you won't be stuck quoting dog groomers and ice cream vans (although we do like dogs and ice cream).
- Experienced with Acturis - you'll need to hit the ground running on this system.
- Possibly qualified (Cert CII or similar), but not essential if your experience does the talking.
- Ideally with some operational or people management experience, even if it wasn't titled as such - they'll consider someone stepping up if they've got the right mindset.
