SEND Teacher

Milk Education are recruiting a dedicated and passionate SEND Teacher for SEND schools in the Gateshead area on a long-term supply basis. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in achieving their full potential. SEND Teacher Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality lessons and interventions tailored to meet the individual needs of students with SEND.
  • Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, support staff, and external professionals to develop and implement effective strategies for student progress.
  • Assess and monitor student progress, providing regular feedback to students, parents, and staff.
  • Develop and maintain individualised education plans (IEPs) and ensure they are reviewed and updated regularly.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued and supported.
  • Support the social and emotional development of students with SEND, encouraging confidence and independence.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and other professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in SEND education.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and liaise with SENCOs and other relevant professionals.

SEND Teacher Non-Negotiables:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Proven experience working with students with SEND, ideally in a specialist setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and relevant legislation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine commitment to supporting the learning and development of students with SEND.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to respond to the changing needs of students and the school.

Desirable:

  • A relevant SEND qualification or additional training in specific areas of SEND (e.g., Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia).
  • Experience in creating and delivering individualized education plans (IEPs).
  • Experience in using assistive technology to support learning.
