Lead Engineer - Production and Product Support

Location: Hingham, Norfolk (NR9) - Office based role

Salary: Competitive

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent - 38 hours per week (Mon - Thurs 8 hours, Fri 6 hours)

As our Lead Engineer of Production and Product Support, you will provide technical assistance and direction to the Mirus Production and Supply Chain teams, as well as our external customers. The role will include diagnosing problems and finding solutions to issues found by our suppliers, production and our customers.

Supporting our customers with any technical support and information required, including problem solving, finding fixes to issues found with the seat in the field, and working out how to implement these solutions to minimise impact to the business and the airline, you will lead a team of engineers, providing technical supervision, guidance, and coordination to efficiently deliver multiple engineering tasks and projects, ensuring they adhere to required timings, specification, budget, product cost, weight, and quality.

In your role as our Lead Engineer - Production & Product Support, you will:

  • Lead a small team of engineers, providing technical assistance to the Mirus production and supply chain teams.
  • Lead the activities to solve technical problems arising from problems on the shop floor or in the field.
  • Create technical documentation (concessions, permits, service bulletins) where appropriate to allow deviations to approved design data.
  • Create, manage, execute and approve Engineering changes and ensure KPI targets are met for timely closeout.
  • Act as a technical decision maker for acceptance or rejection of concessions, permits and engineering changes.
  • Provide technical guidance and co-ordination to the design team and to have technical sign off of engineering changes and design releases generated within your team.
  • Define, drive, plan, monitor, and control the engineering support team output to ensure achievement of the defined schedule and specification.
  • Act as a senior member of the engineering team, championing best practice, developing less experienced colleagues and providing effective support to your engineering manager, deputising when required.
  • Support the engineering management team in identifying and implementing improvements to engineering processes systems and tools to maximise the efficiency, quality of output and agility of the engineering team.
  • Work by best practice of modular assembly build and configuration is followed to ensure the team maximise productivity, quality of output and agility to customise the baseline product.
  • Support the Mirus Supply Chain and Quality teams to aid suppliers to deliver to the required quality and specification.
  • Continually drive the design towards DFM (design for manufacture) and DFA (design for assembly).
  • Provide support in the checking and approval of peers' designs and drawings using the PDM drawing approval process.
  • Liaise with certification, test and stress teams to ensure designs meet the structural and aircraft airworthiness requirements.

  • A Mechanical Engineering Degree (or equivalent).
  • Proficient user of CAD and PDM systems with experience of best practice modelling and drawing techniques including G, D&T.
  • Experience of working on mechanical product delivery programmes in a design, and manufacturing/production environment.
  • Demonstrable experience in planning and executing complex activities.
  • Experience of developing and implementing best practice methodologies.
  • Ability to apply good technical & commercial judgement, supported where necessary by your line manager.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and uncertainty, and to identify the "route-through" to delivery.
  • Diligent, enthusiastic, and driven, with an excellent work ethic, and a "can do" attitude.
  • Highly adaptable and capable of making decisions in a fast and pressured environment.
  • Resilient and determined to overcome obstacles to project completion.

Desirable:

  • Solidworks and PDM experience
  • Experience of delivering aircraft interiors product that is compliant to the airframe spec and CAA, EASA & FAA regulatory requirements.
