SEND Teacher (KS3 Moderate Learning Difficulties)

Location: Wallington, SM6 7NH

Salary: Teacher Main Scale (Outer London Area) £34, 514 - £46,001 per annum + SEN Allowance £2,539 (Salary determined on appointment plus an SEN allowance) (Depending on qualifications and experience)

Hours: Full time, 25 hours per week, 52 weeks per year

The Academy is an outstanding special school situated at the edge of Beddington Park in Wallington. It has 230 students aged 7-18 with a wide range of ability levels and additional learning needs, including complex needs. There are plans for the school to move to a purpose-built Free School in 2024.

The Academy strives to develop the full potential of everyone within its school community and provides a broad and wide-ranging curriculum. Enriching experiences are offered such as residential and curriculum visits and students can access a full range of therapies on site.

The Role

General Responsibilities:

  • The education and welfare of designated classes or groups of pupils in accordance with the requirements of Conditions of Employment of School Teachers, having due regard to the Academy's aims, objectives and schemes of work, and policies.
  • To share in the corporate responsibility for the wellbeing and pastoral care of all pupils.
  • To carry out any reasonable instructions given by the Principal or Senior Leadership Team.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Qualified Teacher Status
  • A good degree, 2.2 or above in the relevant subject advertised.
  • Recent successful experience of working with and/or teaching pupils with special educational needs within any school setting including mainstream schools, teaching a variety of subjects.
  • 2 years experience
  • Proven ability to demonstrate excellent classroom practice.
  • Proven ability in working successfully as part of a staff team
  • Evidence of knowing how to evaluate one's own strengths and weaknesses.
  • Evidence of effective partnership working with parents and carers, evidence of successful multi-agency working (Desirable)
  • Knowledge and experience of current good practice and curriculum developments in special and mainstream education provision.
  • Knowledge of how to develop appropriate schemes of work to support student progress.
  • Knowledge of child development.
  • More extensive knowledge or specific qualification in Art and Photography curriculum area.
  • Firm commitment to one's own continuing professional development, knowledge of successful practice in teaching pupils on the autistic spectrum (Desirable)
