Interim Head of Finance
My client is looking for an experienced and organised Interim Head of Finance to lead a busy finance team within this medium-sized organisation based in East Kent for a period of 3-6 months. The successful candidate will play a critical role in the finance department, supporting the senior leadership and ensuring the smooth operation of the organisation's financial reporting and financial management processes. As the Head of Finance, you will have a proven track record of successfully overseeing financial functions and implementing effective processes for day-to-day finance operations. Your role will encompass supporting strategic financial initiatives, producing financial statements, and ensuring compliance across all financial activities.
Key Responsibilities
The Head of Finance will lead the production of monthly management accounts and year-end statutory accounts, maintaining accuracy and efficiency in all financial records and ensuring compliance with applicable laws. This role includes generating financial reports, monitoring accounts, and supporting senior leadership with financial forecasting, profitability analysis, and strategy. You will present financial updates to the Financial Audit Committee and Board as needed, assist in developing annual budgets and cash flow forecasts, and review monthly accounts, including balance sheets and reconciliations. VAT compliance will be managed through oversight of returns submitted to HMRC, and statutory accounts prepared for audit. Serving as the main contact for external partners, including banks, HMRC, and auditors, you will also manage Strategic Reserves and Investments in line with the organisation's values.
About You
The ideal candidate will be a full or part-qualified ACA, ACCA, or CIMA professional, with proven skills in preparing accounts to trial balance. You should have solid experience in financial accounting, management accounts, cash flow preparation, and VAT processes, along with a background in overseeing annual audits. A strong eye for detail and advanced spreadsheet proficiency are essential. An understanding of charity accounting (SORP) and experience managing funds and trading subsidiaries are critical, with advanced skills in MS Office, particularly Excel. Experience with project accounting and investment management is beneficial, as are advanced Power BI skills and knowledge of VAT issues and Charity Tax Relief specific to charities.
