Financial Controller – Law firm

Full time, permanent position
Hybrid – 2 days a week from home
Salary – this can be provided over the phone
A reputable law firm with offices across Kent are looking to recruit an experienced Financial Controller to replace their current employee, who is due to retire in March. They would like this position to start in January for the purposes of a handover.
Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting, Planning & Forecasting:
Prepare, analyse, and present accurate financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual statements.
- Budget Management:
Develop and monitor budgets, forecasting financial performance, and advising on budgetary adjustments.
- Cash Flow Management:
Oversee cash flow planning, ensuring the firm has adequate funds for operational needs.
- Compliance:
Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations, including legal industry-specific requirements such as trust accounting and client fund management.
- Audit:
Coordinate external audits and prepare necessary documentation to ensure a smooth and successful audit process.
- Strategic Planning:
Provide financial insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making, including profitability analysis of different practice areas.
- Team Leadership:
Lead and develop 2 legal cashiers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
About you
- Education:
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field. CPA, CMA, or ACCA certification preferred.
- Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial management, ideally within a law firm or within professional services.
- Technical Skills:
Proficient in financial software with advanced Excel skills.
- Knowledge:
Strong understanding of legal industry financial practices, including trust accounting, billing cycles, and regulatory compliance. You must have knowledge of the SRA accounting rules.
