Purchasing Materials Controller

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the right individual to join the company as a Purchasing Materials Controller. This role is to work within the parts and components supply team and is the perfect role for a highly organised individual who wants to join a fast-paced team.

Working within a fast-paced production environment/office, you will provide support to the production/stores operatives and deputise for the Manufacturing Operations Manager as needed. Our client is moving to a just in time supply window during the next year and it is expected that the role will help implement company strategic projects in addition to the day job.

Duties (include but are not limited to):

  • Manage ERP (part) information and the purchasing process which includes updating replenishment data such as min/max, lead time, MOQ's, supplier details and product part data, UOI, alternative suppliers' information, stocking status, part pricing data, supplier details and contact information.
  • Place & Chase purchase orders (including services and transport orders) to required dates, compare and log acknowledgements, challenge and correct differences, avoid delivery charges then chase deliveries to match production requirements.
  • Source quotations for projects and engineering development projects
  • Awareness of Trailer Production schedule to match purchase/deliver dates accordingly or communicate mismatches that affect sales order completion to Customer Services/Manufacturing Operations Manager.
  • Work closely with Stores/Production Team Leaders to match reorder points/MOQs in line with requirements and available storage and plan/communicate delivery schedules.
  • Correct any short supply/over delivery, accounts queries.
  • Develop VMI and Kanban supply systems.
  • Minimise inventory and agree implement stocking policy by product/part to achieve stock turn targets (Runners, Repeaters, Strangers).
  • Record and communicate purchasing savings/price increases.
  • Manage direct supplier relationships to deliver improvements in cost, service, and quality.
  • Manage returns to suppliers and reject goods ensuring stock/financial accuracy/raising and completing the NC process.
  • Hold supplier delivery progress meetings with key supplier/s.
  • Input stock check results.
  • Liaise/communicate and update Engineering, Sales, Management, Design, IT, Accounts as necessary.
  • Attend team meetings and deliver (when deputising for Manufacturing Operations Manager.)
  • Any other reasonable duties as requested by the Company.

Person Specification:

  • Purchasing and logistics experience with cost management and analysis skills.
  • Team leader experience would be an advantage.
  • Word and Excel intermediate level as a minimum.
  • Good negotiation skills and ability to influence.
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced lean manufacturing production.
  • Kanban supply knowledge is advantageous.
  • General Admin experience.
  • Knowledge of and good ERP experience.
  • Self-starter and finisher.
  • Hands on and practical approach.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Committed team player.
  • Strong communication, influencing and interpersonal skills, both internally and with key external stakeholders.
  • Customer focussed & results orientated.
  • Highly organised and able to work to tight deadlines.
  • Takes ownership, problem solver and has good initiative
