Purpose for the Underwriting Manager

  • To be responsible for the Underwriting and Administrative Departments. Working with Team Leaders to ensure all processes are followed, resulting in clear auditable workflows and exceptional performance and efficiency delivery. Focusing on performance and compliance management along with the training and development of all Underwriters and support staff.

Main Duties for the Underwriting Manager

  • Apply demonstrable experience in developing and implementing process mapping of all workflows from end to end, including system integration to ensure efficiency is at the heart of all changes.
  • Be responsible for the day-to-day workflows and quality of output across the Underwriting department.
  • Deliver and oversee the delivery of all aspect of training required across the department to ensure that process you manage are embedded within the day-to-day Underwriting functions.
  • Effectively communicate core business requirements to ensure all Teams are performing in accordance with the business requirements.
  • Table and oversee the proper delivery of the daily meeting schedules including morning huddles.
  • Manage the audit and compliance processes, ensuring they are embedded within the department.
  • Support Credit with ensuring that the mandate processes are complied with by application of the compliance and audit processes. Support with the training and development of the competency framework.
  • Ensure all direct and indirect reports are managed through the businesses 121 and performance management processes.
  • Work with HR to ensure that all reports and direct reports have ongoing development plans ensuring the training schedule supports their individual goals.
  • Design and continuously develop the Underwriting training plan, including group and individual training. Training should deliver core process and system knowledge along with more specialised training such as legal and compliance.
  • Work with the Head of Finance to ensure you have accurate management information and data at all times to support with performance and target management.
  • Work with the systems Project Manager internally and external third parties to support with the continuous development of systems in line with processes. Ensure training is updated and delivered to roll out any system changes and embed use across the department.
  • Management of external stakeholders and specifically the solicitors panel, ensuring the business receives excellent levels of service delivery.
  • Support with the development the business user manuals, polices, How to Guides and training materials and delivery.
  • Mange through the credit polices and mandates ensuring compliance and escalating none compliance via the audit processes that you will own and manage.
  • Report all activities to the Risk Committee concerning process and compliance risks in the Underwriting.

Person Specification for the Underwriting Role:

  • An organised leader with excellent attention to detail and time management skills.
  • Expert user of Microsoft suite and the ability to adapt to using different CRM systems as required.
  • Experienced people manager with strong influencing and communication skills.
  • Experienced stakeholder management including external third party resource.
  • Extensive experience in the lending and specifically unregulated lending space.
