A great opportunity has become available for the position of Plant Maintenance Trainee Fitter. The immediate role involves daily warehouse duties at our busy plant and equipment, providing equipment for the entire SGN south network. The successful applicant could develop to provide servicing and inspection of our vast array of equipment, including breathing apparatus testing, instrument calibration and mechanical maintenance. The role forms an important part of a dedicated team of plant fitters, located at the Maintenance Support Depot in Segensworth. Day-to-day activities require understanding a wide variety of portable handheld plant & equipment which includes hydraulic, pneumatic and engine plant. All equipment maintained is for the use of our large field team of gas engineers across South and South-East network who rely on this service for their safety and efficiency.

I help to keep people safe and warm by...

  • Undertaking warehouse duties and playing an integral part in daily logistics.
  • Managing goods in and out, tagging assets, and adding details to a database system.
  • Inputting service records into an asset software system with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Supporting the field-based Plant & Equipment teams and occasionally delivering tools and equipment across all remote Southern locations.
  • Showing potential to develop into a role that undertakes service, maintenance, and repairs on various items of plant & equipment, with training and support provided.
  • Joining the standby team to support out-of-hours work when required.
  • Maintaining high standards of service and safety.

What you'll need

  • Prior experience of working in a warehouse, stock-control environment.
  • Ability to gain forklift licence, if not already obtained.
  • A positive attitude and be motivated working both alone and in a busy team environment.
  • Working knowledge of PUWER and understanding of the requirement to inspect tools and equipment.
  • You will have organisational, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills and be practically minded.
  • Good IT literacy.
  • Must be an effective communicator at all levels, within your own team and beyond.
