What's the role?

Bloomberg's Legal Department plays a critical role in supporting our businesses and operations around the world. We move quickly and thoughtfully to help address a variety of complex legal issues that arise across the Company's various businesses. We are seeking an experienced Legal Counsel with significant subject matter expertise across Media to collaborate frequently with colleagues and internal clients in an exciting, high energy work environment. The role will require you to partner with our business and sales colleagues to advise on, draft and negotiate contracts for our media and technology services worldwide. Our colleagues depend on us for our deep product and commercial contract knowledge in order to support them in closing the deal, while protecting our businesses from undue legal risk.

We'll trust you to:

  • Serve as the primary transactions and data privacy counsel for the Bloomberg Media team in EMEA, based in London.
  • Develop, draft, and negotiate customer and partner agreements for a range of transactions including content production, content licensing and acquisition, advertising services, distribution, partnerships, event sponsorships, non-disclosure agreements, talent agreements and production services agreements.
  • Provide media, data privacy, intellectual property, licensing, distribution, privacy and other commercial legal advice and counsel to internal clients.
  • Collaborate with business in shaping strategy, product development, identifying business risks, and defining company policies and procedures
  • Work closely with key members of the Legal & Compliance Department, including our newsroom counsel, intellectual property, compliance and privacy teams to handle and mitigate risks.

You'll need to have:

  • A minimum of either 5 years* experience practicing as a qualified corporate lawyer and/or a minimum of 4 years' experience operating as an in-house lawyer at a Media company in EMEA or APAC
  • Substantive experience drafting agreements and licenses
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal concepts to digestible, easy to use content for business leaders and other non-legal teams
  • Excellent organizational skills and exemplary attention to detail
  • Able to handle projects and partner on initiatives, including balancing multiple matters simultaneously and judging when and how to prioritize
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and with minimal direction on matters that require significant collaboration e.g. senior colleagues, business partners and non-legal teams
  • *Please note we use years of experience as a guide but we certainly will consider applications from all candidates who are able to demonstrate the skills necessary for the role.

  • Experience working across a variety of jurisdictions in EMEA and APAC
  • Data Privacy coverage
  • Strong understanding and experience working in media law.
  • A candidate who has supported groups such as Business Development, Content Licensing, Content Distribution, TV Production or Studio, Events and Ad Sales
