Our client was founded in 1983 and has steadily expanded over the years and now employs approximately 100 people in a range of specialist disciplines solely focused on the science of façade engineering.

The initial business consisted of a selection of engineers with unmatched expertise in all facets of façade design and the practical application of bespoke and standardised façade solutions.

The company continued to grow throughout its long history, capitalising on the development of a strong overseas market and benefitting from the recruitment of key people from the industry.

Due to exciting growth and acquisition our client is now seeking a driven Head of Engineering who can demonstrate expert technical support to the project team, relating to the primary civil and structural works, or to whole project technical compliance. This individual will drive the validation of project specific proposals, plans, programmes, sequences, etc. ensuring the verification of compliance with the project brief, specifications, regulatory and Mace internal requirements. Responsible for managing team/s of direct reports, and/or management of the engineering team deployed to the specific project, driving achievement of key performance indicators (KPIs), and including a continuous improvement culture.

The role

  • Ensures the design output is accurate and checked to ensure information is clear, achievable, buildable, conforms to preferred methods, and is available to enable efficient procurement and construction of the works.
  • Develops and implements project specific dimensional control strategy, to the achievement of project specific KPIs.
  • Responsible for ensuring company & project quality requirements procedures are implemented and quality standards are achieved.
  • Proactively supports the interpretations of as-built surveys/installations and ensuring they are checked prior to construction of follow-on activities.
  • Drives the management and production of quality assurance information, ensuring aligns to quality assurance standards and consistency.
  • Provides performance management of direct/indirect reports, providing technical & career development and coaching.
  • Accountability for the technical aspects of a project including driving innovations and technical developments.
  • Delivers continuous improvements in processes through application of best practices and lessons learned.
  • Drives transformational change.
  • Manages, influences & negotiates with key senior stakeholders (up to c-suite).
  • Works collaboratively towards the common goal of net zero carbon transition and share responsibility for the proactive identification and management of the associated carbon emissions and reductions during the delivery of work.

You will have

  • Have overall responsibility for the technical/structural aspects of the project.
  • Lead the project technical decision-making process.
  • Experience in developing construction methods & sequencing.
  • Ability to check design output to ensure that information is clear, complete, achievable, buildable, confirms to preferred methods and is available to enable efficient procurement and construction of the works.
  • Responsible for ensuring that company and project quality requirements and procedures are implemented.
  • Expertise in the management of temporary Works.
  • Experienced in managing the health, safety & environmental aspects of the project (for structural elements).
  • Professionally qualified with the Institution of civil engineers, institution of structural engineers or similar professional body.
  • Provide engineering leadership to the project technical team.
  • Highly accurate with good attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to adapt communication style to meet the needs of different audiences.
  • Proven to build and maintain effective working relationships with project team and external stakeholders to ensure high quality service delivery.
  • Ability to manage time effectively to meet key deadlines.
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering engineering activities on building type projects of a complexity commensurate with this role.
  • Qualified and experienced in the management of temporary Works.

Experience of

  • Lead structural value engineering assessments.
  • Ensures that BIM is utilised to support technical management of the project.
  • Expertise in dimensional control, including definition & innovation.
  • Lead/input to project innovations and technical developments.
  • Develop or input to the development of proposals to reduce the carbon impact of the project.
  • Manage the production of quality assurance documentation as required to validate the project delivery and/or statutory compliance.
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering engineering roles/activities on projects of a complexity commensurate with this role.
  • Promotes continuous improvement.
  • Create engineering vision and strategy for the project.
  • Ability to mentor and develop junior engineers both technically and professionally.
  • Ability to take on package management responsibilities for structural packages where required.
