Housing Assistant Officer at Harrow Council

Are you a motivated individual seeking an exciting opportunity within Harrow Council? Join our expanding team as a Housing Assistant Officer. Please note that the candidate needs to hold a driving license and have business insurance.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Comply with role-related responsibilities outlined in the council's health and safety policy.

2. Handle enquiries professionally (in person, writing, or by telephone) within corporate timescales.

3. Maintain the highest standards of customer care.

4. Support tenancy and leasehold issues, collaborating with partners and service providers.

5. Assist in database management and rent collection system maintenance.

6. Promote diversity in service delivery.

7. Provide telephone duty rota coverage.

8. Issue fobs to customers as needed.

9. Work with tenants/resident associations to address concerns promptly.

10. Effectively handle initial enquiries from customers approaching the Housing Department.

11. Undertake low-level actions to prevent arrears and manage housing.

12. Conduct Tenancy Audits, Vulnerable Visits, and Settling-in visits.

13. Support housing officers with Gas Access and EICR compliances.

14. Fulfill reasonable management requests.

15. Assist with Right to Buy queries and applications.

16. Aid with bulk tasks.

Experience and Skills:

1. Understanding: Familiarity with service delivery, government policies, legislative frameworks, and key issues related to housing tenancy management, including equality considerations.

2. Legal Knowledge: Working understanding of housing and public sector legislation.

3. Maintenance Awareness: Knowledge of basic repairs and maintenance for homes and estates.

4. Welfare Benefits: Basic understanding of welfare benefits.

5. Diversity Awareness: Awareness of minority group needs and potential barriers.

6. Customer Focus: Experience in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

7. Problem-Solving: Proficiency in problem-solving techniques.

8. Education: Minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C or above (including English and maths) or equivalent educational proficiency.

9. Software Proficiency: Able to use software tools (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, internet, and email) proficiently.

10. Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including letter writing.

11. Interpersonal Skills: Effective communication with diverse groups of people.

13. Task Management: Ability to prioritize complex tasks and meet deadlines.
