Assistant Financial Controller

Boston Hale is currently recruiting for an experienced and proactive Assistant Financial Controller to join an established Housing Association based in Surrey.

As the Assistant Financial Controller, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the transaction team, ensuring quality control and maintaining accurate financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee accounts payable, income receivable, and banking transactions. Ensure team members are well-trained, appraised, and have a personal development plan.
  • Develop and manage the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate reconciliation and reporting.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of all tax returns (VAT, CIS, Corporation Tax) and maintain effective processes for tax accounting.
  • Prepare the trial balance and draft notes for monthly, quarterly, and annual accounts, and support external audits.
  • Manage bank account transactions, maintain updated bank mandates, and train users on banking procedures.
  • Develop and oversee procedures for accounts payable, accounts receivable, utilities, rent allocation, and banking allocations to ensure transactions are accurate and timely.

Essential Qualifications:

  • CCAB qualified accountant with proven experience in leading and developing teams.
  • Strong knowledge of transaction management, including accounts payable, supplier, and customer relations.
  • Experience in managing corporation tax, partial-exemption VAT, and day-to-day banking operations.

Skills and Experience:

  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Expertise in communicating financial data to non-financial audiences.
  • Demonstrated success in designing and implementing financial procedures and processes.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
