The opportunity:

The brand engagement and communications team manage the Markel brand, both internally and externally. The department is responsible for internal and external communications through employee communications and engagement initiatives, media relations, digital presence including social media channels and sponsorship. The department is responsible for the strategic direction and governance of the corporate brand in partnership with the corporate marketing and communications team.

What you'll be doing:

Responsible for the planning and execution of the international events & sponsorship strategy for the international business of Markel. Including high profile sponsorships such as The Markel Magnolia Cup, a charity horse race which takes place on Ladies Day of The Qatar Goodwood Festival and The National Theatre. Along with multiple employee engagement events and business conferences.

  • Management of an events assistant and annual events calendar across the international business.
  • Event management and delivery for all large scale and high-profile events (ranging from corporate hospitality, sponsorship, thought leadership seminars, breakfasts/lunches, through to a 750-person person formal event).
  • Manage end to end event logistics, such as venue sourcing, contract negotiation, catering, theming, entertainment and AV.
  • Produce detailed event proposals (including timelines, agendas, venues, suppliers, theme, brand activation and budgets).
  • Manage the relationship with Markel's sponsorship partners such as Goodwood and the National Theatre. Handle contract negotiation and renewals.
  • Work closely with our in-house creative team (and external suppliers when needed) to develop high-quality event materials.
  • Manage third party agencies to support in the creative delivery, implementation and logistics of key events.
  • Provide regular event reporting, ensuring each event is measured effectively
  • Produce post-event evaluation opportunities to evaluate event success, gather stakeholder feedback and identify areas for improvement to enhance future events.
  • Curate event packs, proposals, presentations, and any other event literature/documentation where required.
  • Oversee the merchandise ordering and tracking spend for the international business
  • Own, manage and update the internal event resources/tools (events tracker, Intranet page, SharePoint page etc.)
  • Ad-hoc support for extended leadership travel and accommodation at flagship events.
  • Ad-hoc support on various projects, as required.

Our must haves:

  • Have previous event management experience, a proven track record of planning and executing successful events.
  • Enjoy working as part of a supportive and collaborative team, with a desire to succeed.
  • Experience of manging/coaching or influencing others.
  • Be exceptionally organised, process driven, and detail orientated.
  • Confident interacting with C-suite executives and demonstrating initiative.
  • Be confident across all Microsoft Office standard tools such as Teams, SharePoint, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with Hive workflow tool and ability to draft copy would be advantageous, but not necessary.
  • Experience using Adobe creative suite such as; InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, would be advantageous, but not necessary.
