Combined Heat Plant Engineer

City Energy Solutions (CES) is a rapidly growing business. We generate electricity and provide heat directly to customers homes from our energy centres via our district heating networks. Right now, we're looking for a CHP Engineer to join our CES team based in London. Here you will be responsible for the corrective, preventative, and predictive maintenance in all areas of the process including, but not limited to CHP including all associated parts & plant, District Heating plant rooms, pumping and control systems, Heat and Electric Metering equipment.

You will also assist the CHP Team Leader to help plan, co-ordinate and complete maintenance activities for all mechanical, electrical, that impact/are likely to impact on the operational performance of the CHP & District Heating Network. The purpose is to reduce unplanned unavailability and keep our customers on supply 24/7, improve the performance of the assets while ensuring all major costs are identified early in the process to assist with Business planning.

This is a varied and responsible role that requires a self-motivated team player with a willingness to learn but also share knowledge, you should be someone with a calm and methodical approach under pressure. You must be punctual, reliable and have at extensive experience with gas fired reciprocating engines or generators and a strong technical background including proven training and experience in Mechanical Engineering.

Other responsibilities will include -

  • Service and maintenance of 2x MWM 2032
  • Carrying out minor and major overhauls
  • Fault finding control panels and alternators
  • Pump repairs and replacement
  • Reporting all defects to CHP Team leader and team
  • Hazard identification, risk assessment and management of risks

**What we need from you

  • A minimum of a mechanical craft qualification or higher (C&G, ONC or HNC)
  • Gas Safe Certificates, including COCN1, IGEM 3
  • Have experience with gas fired reciprocating engines or generators (MWM 2032 mainly but experience on other MWM variants would be beneficial)
  • Be able to strip and repair a reciprocating engine
  • Good understanding of Comap controls
  • Good use of initiative with the ability to prioritise the CHP fleets needs
  • Excellent understanding of the commercial and financial effects of plant operation
  • Knowledge of rotating equipment
  • Excellent problem-solving ability
  • Good IT Skills
  • Strong Health & Safety Awareness
  • A full UK driving license

**Here's what else you need to know

  • The salary range for this role is £44,199 - £56,113. There is a London allowance of up to £3,550 pa available for eligible candidates.
  • This role requires travel to other sites within London. A company van & fuel card will be provided.
  • The successful candidate will join a Call Out Rota 1 week in 5, with a standby retainer of circa £4,000 pa. Overtime for callouts will be paid in addition to this.
  • This is a permanent role.
