SEMH Teaching Assistant

Reed Education Birmingham is working with an Alternative Provision in search of SEMH Teaching Assistants to support students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviours. This role is ideal for individuals with a real passion for supporting Primary aged children with various challenging behaviours and the ability to build meaningful and nurturing relationships with students.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with SEMH needs.
  • Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour support plans.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external agencies to support the holistic development of students.
  • Monitor and track the progress of students, providing feedback to the teaching staff.
  • Be confident with behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.
  • Have good knowledge of the National Curriculum to support students with their learning.
  • Maintain an optimistic outlook and determination to make a difference to children's education.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Relevant experience working with students or adults with SEMH needs is essential.
  • TEAM TEACH is essential
  • Understanding of different learning styles and strategies to support diverse needs.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to changing situations.
  • Relevant qualifications in education or special education are desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of SEN is essential.
  • Strong communication, empathy, and patience are crucial.
  • Willingness to adapt to the varying needs of students and the school environment.
  • A moving and handling qualification is preferred.
  • Candidates must hold or be willing to apply for an enhanced DBS upon registration.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the UK.
