Reed Accountancy is seeking an interim Head of Payroll for a 12-month FTC to cover maternity leave. The ideal candidate will possess the skills and experience outlined below.

JOB SUMMARY

This role ensures the delivery of an accurate and reliable payroll service for all employees globally, including expatriates, meeting all SLAs/KPIs. Responsibilities include managing external payroll providers, ensuring control processes are in place, and continuously optimizing the payroll process.

JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver accurate and reliable payroll services globally, including expatriates, meeting all SLAs/KPIs.
  • Lead delivery requirements with external payroll providers.
  • Support and coach the payroll team to handle all aspects of the employee life cycle service, manage workloads, and handle high demands.
  • Model excellent customer service to create a culture of excellence.
  • Implement continuous improvements in payroll and HR data processes, including automation.
  • Support payroll-related projects and standardize payroll services across locations.
  • Act as a point of escalation and subject matter expert for payroll issues.
  • Provide insights and performance data on compliance processes and payroll performance.
  • Ensure audit-level process checks for legislative and company compliance.
  • Communicate with stakeholders and employees to manage pay-impacting issues.
  • Collaborate with HR to understand business needs and deliver effective services.
  • Liaise with Finance and Accounting to ensure a robust and audited payroll, complying with Sarbanes-Oxley processes.
  • Manage compensation and benefit programs effectively.
  • Maintain high standards of compliance, ensuring accurate employee and HR records in line with Data Protection legislation and company policies.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Experience in HR/Payroll Operations for a multinational organization (4,000+ employees), handling international payrolls and supervisory experience.
  • Experience with third-party payroll service providers.
  • Awareness of regulatory requirements in major markets (US, UK, Angola, Brazil).
  • High integrity, sound judgment, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to anticipate service needs and escalate when necessary.
  • Experienced supervisor capable of coaching for high performance.
  • Understanding of employee experience, relationship management, and customer service.
  • Experience with HRMS and payroll-related software.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Comfortable dealing with employees at all levels.
  • Ability to summarize critical information to improve payroll performance.
  • Strong delivery against performance targets.
  • Self-motivated with minimal supervision.
  • Sound judgment and empathy with internal and external customers.
  • Resilience to manage peaks of activity or challenge.
  • Embrace change and focus on aspects that can be influenced.
  • Solution-focused with a proactive approach and ‘can do' attitude.
  • Experience delivering processes in accordance with SLAs and SOX control.

Desired

  • Experience in hybrid shared service model environments and managing third-party suppliers.
  • Exposure to integrating modern automations (RPA) into core processes and services.
