Position: SEN Teaching Assistant

A primary school located in the Brixton area of SE London is looking for a committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated SEN unit. The unit consists of small classes, each with 10 students, all of whom have Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) needs. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children with Autism, preferably within a school environment, though experience in social care or similar fields is also highly valued.

Role Description:

  • Individualised Support: As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide personalised assistance to students with ASC, helping them engage effectively in their learning and development.
  • Structured Environment: The role involves supporting a structured, supportive classroom setting tailored to the specific needs of children with Autism.
  • Team Collaboration: You will work closely with a team of teachers and other staff members to ensure that each student receives the appropriate care and educational support.

Key Duties:

  • Offer 1:1 and small group support to students, focusing on enhancing their engagement and social interaction.
  • Assist in the implementation of individualised education plans (IEPs) and behaviour management strategies.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to monitor student progress and adapt support as required.
  • Contribute to creating a calm and positive learning environment that encourages personal and academic growth.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Previous experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant or in a similar role working with children with Autism is strongly preferred.
  • Experience within a school setting is ideal, although candidates with backgrounds in social care or related fields are also encouraged to apply.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build supportive relationships with students.
  • A current DBS check or the willingness to obtain one through Reeson Education.
