  • Salary: £36,000 - £40,000 depending on experience.

We are seeking a Test & Development Technician with a strong electrical focus to join our Test & Development department. As part of an 11-technician team, you will be working in a vehicle workshop environment, primarily handling electrical tasks with occasional mechanical work. This role requires collaboration with T&D Engineers to set up vehicles with the necessary components and instrumentation for testing both on-site and at external facilities.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Conduct electrical and mechanical work on vehicles, ensuring all tasks are completed to a high standard.
  • Collaborate with T&D Engineers to prepare vehicles for testing, including the installation of components and instrumentation.
  • Perform diagnostics, fault finding, and rectification on all electrical systems and CAN networks harnesses.
  • Work with high & low voltage systems on EV and hybrid vehicles using laptop-based diagnostic software.
  • Build and modify harnesses from drawings, including 24V, High Voltage, and CAN systems.
  • Remove and replace vehicle components, from single parts to axles and drive trains, and create prototype systems as required.
  • Work independently, under pressure, and proactively solve problems to meet deadlines.
  • Maintain a safe and tidy work environment, adhering to Health & Safety standards.
  • Travel to other sites and proving grounds may be required, with potential overnight stays and occasional overseas travel.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge and experience of automotive electrical and mechanical systems
  • Ability to read and understand electrical drawings and circuit diagrams.
  • Experience with high voltage & CAN systems, fault finding, and resolution.
  • Proficiency in using instrumentation and data logging equipment.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal, and fluency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • PSV or HGV license is desirable.
  • Experience with laptop-based diagnostic equipment.
  • Automotive industry experience, particularly in coach, HGV, or specialist vehicles.
  • Engineering qualifications such as National Certificate, Diploma, or HNC are preferred.
  • A proven track record in vehicle testing is desirable.
