Collections & House Officer

Summary

Our friendly Collections and House team care for and present Dunham Massey to its full potential. You'll be responsible for supervising our day-to-day offer, getting the house ready for visitors, organising our volunteer teams, and contributing to collections management and care. You'll have a particular focus on supervising and developing the visitor experience offer in the house.

Our Collections and House Team thrive in a busy environment, working collaboratively to improve care of and access to our collection. We are a supportive and friendly team, who work hard.?

This role is very physical due to the requirements for cleaning the visitor route each day, and handling collection furniture and objects.

What you'll be doing

Dunham Massey cares for one of the largest and most diverse Collections in the National Trust. You'll share responsibilities with the existing two Collections & House Officers that form part of the Collections team. You'll have particular focus on supervising and co-ordinating the visitor experience offer in the house. This includes managing the day-to-day open operations of the house, supporting front of house staff, leading the indoor volunteer teams, and presenting the house at its best for visitors. Through great teamwork with the Collections team, you'll balance this with behind-the-scenes conversation work, improving stored collections and the records we keep.

You'll also focus on developing the winter offer within the historic house, including responsibility for its winter operation in 2024 and supporting the offer's evaluation and development for 2025.

Who we're looking for

We'd love to hear from you if have:

  • operational experience of working in an historic house or museum setting
  • a good understanding of preventive conservation
  • knowledge of collections management and care
  • good written and verbal communication skills
  • enthusiastic team player
  • experience of working with and supervising volunteers
  • able to work from ladders and tower scaffold
