Role Overview
- Position: Assistant Management Accountant
- Pay Rate: £20.98 per hour
- Contract Duration: Until 31st December 2025
- Location: Oxford (Agile working across the county)
- Reports To: Assistant Finance Business Partner
- Team: Business Partnering, Finance Service Area
- Hours: Up to 37 per week (flexible working considered)
Key Responsibilities
- Provide financial analysis, advice, and support to managers (cost centre, service, contract, project).
- Support in Service & Resource Planning, Financial Monitoring, and Final Accounts processes.
- Validate and assure final accounts and working papers.
- Assist with business planning, budget reports, and financial scrutiny.
- Offer financial insight into projects, contracts, capital, and revenue implications.
- Promote good internal financial control within the Directorate.
Essential Criteria

Qualifications: AAT qualified or committed to starting within two years.

Experience: Significant relevant finance/accounting experience.

Knowledge:

Local government financing & statutory accounting.

Financial control, risk management, corporate governance.

Skills:

Effective communicator (written and verbal).

Strong ICT skills (especially spreadsheets).

Analytical and detail-oriented.

Works independently and collaboratively.

Motivated, inquisitive, and proactive.
Desirable Criteria
- Knowledge of the council's financial framework (Constitution, Procedure Rules).
- Experience in Local Government finance.
- Experience using SAP systems.
