Legal Officer - Litigation

We are currently recruiting a Legal Officer to join us on a full time permanent basis. Working within our Litigation service, you will bring a working knowledge and understanding of housing litigation including general housing law, disrepair and anti social behavior.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure effective execution and delivery of legal work and provide high quality professional litigation services
  • Assist the Litigation team and Director of Governance and Assurance services in fulfilling the overall objectives of the Team
  • Draft, prepare and conduct legal proceedings in the County Court brought by and against Incommunities Ltd
  • Advise on all matters relating to Litigation including tenancy enforcement
  • Exercise considerable initiative and professional judgement, referring for guidance on more complex, major or sensitive issues as and when appropriate
  • Undertake disrepair cases, from commencement of the Letter of Claim, through to Trial in the County Court.
  • To attend and advise work groups, panels, multi-agency meetings concerned with Litigation work
  • Deal with enquires from various internal and external sources and provide legal advice

About You

  • Have excellent communication skills instilling confidence with your verbal and written language.
  • Have extensive experience of working in a civil litigation legal practice or department in a legal role, of managing a caseload of housing matters, attending court as an advocate and providing sound legal advice.
  • Have experience of working with legal documents in a formal environment and preparing cases for court
  • Maintain a personal awareness of legislative and case law developments
  • Think strategically and turn plans into action
  • Are absolutely committed to delivering excellent customer experience
  • Take ownership of tasks, being accountable for responsibilities and organising priorities

Requirements

  • Working knowledge and understanding of housing litigation, procedure and the relevant laws
  • Extensive knowledge of one or more of the following areas: general housing law, disrepair, anti-social behaviour
  • Relevant qualifications such as qualified solicitor or a Fellowship of the Institute of Legal Executives or equivalent
  • An understanding and awareness of the housing and social needs of a multicultural society and of the sensitive complex issues that may arise
  • Ability to undertake advocacy in relation to a range of housing related matters
  • Excellent organisational skills and are able to juggle multiple priorities
  • Ability to communicate effectively and liaise with management of all levels
  • Demonstrate a calm and professional approach to sensitive issues
