Newstaff Employment Services have an exciting opportunity for an Experienced Weighbridge operator in St Albans.

This is a very wide-ranging role which could be likely to change and progress as the company grows, the successful candidate would have to be able to demonstrate good organization and administration skills along with the ability to communicate well.

It is imperative that we get someone who can work on their own initiative but equally they must be a team player as this position is one that requires good interpersonal / communication skills.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Operate weighbridge maintaining swift traffic flow and safety of vehicles on/off weighbridge – keeping waiting times to a minimum.
  • Check incoming loads, ensuring compliance with site licence and permitted waste types.
  • Accurately record weights & waste type by vehicle, completing appropriate documentation and collect driver signatures etc.
  • Process delivery notes and tickets accurately and efficiently.
  • Immediately report any contamination or non-conforming wastes delivered to site to the appropriate Manager.
  • Report any anomalies/errors to the weighbridge system to the appropriate people immediately.
  • Maintain relationships and deal with queries from customers and site visitors.
  • Ensuring all visiting drivers/ contractors and customers are issued the site rules and have signed in and out of the site.
  • Ensure that vehicles delivering to site have the correct paperwork and EWC codes.
  • Ensure that vehicles have the necessary paperwork for forward movements from the site to destination.
  • Assist Weighbridge Manager with general administrative duties and customer service, making and answering the telephone and directing calls as appropriate.
  • Comply with all Health, Safety, HR and Environmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintain the weighbridge office is in a clean, tidy and hazard free condition.
  • Deal with incoming and outgoing emails.
  • Greet and assist visitors.
  • The above list is not exhaustive and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.

  • Required Skills:
  • Excellent Communication skills.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritise workload.
  • Fully conversant with office equipment including photocopier / scanner / printer.
  • Computer literate.
  • Good knowledge of Health and Safety practices.
  • Experience of working within a busy site would be an advantage.
  • Professional telephone manner.

Hours of work:

  • Primarily working 08:30 – 17:00 but after full training must be able to cover, when required, opening of Weighbridge from 05:45 – 14:15.
