The Role
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Underwriter to take on an enhanced role that will involve managing day-to-day underwriting responsibilities, leading a team, and developing an effective Exposure Management function and will report directly to the Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO).
This role offers the opportunity to significantly contribute to our underwriting and exposure management strategies, while playing a key role in the future direction of our reinsurance activities. Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee pricing, renewal, and administration of reinsurance treaties
- Lead and manage a team of Underwriters (currently 4 direct reports)
- Collaborate with the Actuarial team on treaty pricing and rating
- Handle special exceptions and out-of-cycle renewals
- Establish and lead an Exposure Management team
- Maintain strong relationships with Member companies and internal departments
- Support the CUO in strategic reinsurance activities and other underwriting matters, including cyber risk and government resilience initiatives
Skills and Qualifications:
- Chartered Insurance Institute qualifications preferred
- Extensive experience in underwriting, preferably in reinsurance
- Strong knowledge of treaty reinsurance, property insurance, and terrorism risk
- Experience in exposure management and team leadership
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach
- Strong understanding of the UK commercial insurance market
