Salary: £25,000- 40,000

MLK Education Search are seeking to appoint an experienced Speech and Lanaguage Therapist to join a therapeutic school in Great Baddow, Essex.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement effective and engaging therapy programs for children, in collaboration with teachers and leadership.
  • Maintain professional communication with colleagues.
  • Foster positive relationships with the families of children.
  • Supervise children to ensure their safety at all times.
  • Design and conduct whole-staff therapeutic training sessions.
  • Facilitate therapy sessions ethically and safely, obtaining consent from parents, carers, and children.
  • Perform a variety of assessments to meet diverse needs.
  • Stay informed about changes in the lives of children receiving specific therapy and communicate updates to the therapy and teaching teams.
  • Employ a capacity-building approach to empower staff with skills for enhancing pupils' communication abilities.
  • Identify communicative functions of behaviors and set goals to reduce challenging behavior by providing more effective communication methods for pupils.
  • Set functional goals to encourage meaningful participation and greater independence among pupils.
  • Develop and oversee the execution of class-wide intervention programs.
  • Generate termly reports on children's progress in both individual and group therapy sessions.
  • Record precise and succinct therapy notes, ensuring their secure storage and confidentiality.
  • Manage smooth transitions for children.
  • Notify the assistant principal of any changes to the therapy schedule.
  • Offer support levels to help children engage with their learning, customizing therapeutic programs to their individual needs.
  • Collaborate with the teaching and therapy teams on the development and execution of therapy progress plans.
  • Communicate regularly with families following the school's protocols.
  • Participate in all therapy meetings and parent/carer open days.
  • Engage in continuous professional development through meetings, training, and other learning activities, aligning with the school's ethos and objectives.
  • Lead communications with families during parent/carer open days and attend relevant professional meetings.
  • Arrange and partake in external supervision to enhance therapeutic practices within the school.

Qualifications:

  • At least current degree level, fully qualified therapist in own specialised field & associated registration with appropriate body (i.e. BACP) (essential)
  • Experience of working with children & young people in challenging contexts (essential)
  • A range of experience in own specialised therapeutic field (essential)
  • High level of competence in English and mathematics (essential)
  • An appropriate level of experience of operating in the classroom (or similar) environment with children with SEN who present challenging behaviour (essential) ?
  • Further training or qualifications related to therapy, children & young people, special educational needs and/or leadership & management (desirable)
