Role Overview:

As a Manufacturing Engineer specialised in Assembly and Test, you will join our client's Manufacturing Engineering Function within the Nacelles Value Stream. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in improving current manufacturing processes to ensure safe and efficient production of our products. You will primarily support the advanced product quality planning (APQP) activities, oversee assembly and test operations, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Your expertise will be crucial in enhancing product quality, eliminating waste, and reducing costs. Additionally, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams, support customer engagements, and contribute to product design changes for improved manufacturing efficiency.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Leading Manufacturing Engineering APQP activities
  • Collaborating with the Value Stream to optimise the building layout and increase output using industry best practises
  • Implementing automation initiatives and driving critical cost reduction activities
  • Creating and modifying manufacturing process routines
  • Supporting rework or out-of-scope manufacturing process routines
  • Continuously analysing process flows and performing failure mode and effects analysis (PFMEA)
  • Facilitating problem-solving and lean-based cost reduction activities
  • Supporting internal audits and process improvement initiatives
  • Managing process changes resulting from engineering design modifications
  • Recommending product design changes to enhance manufacturability
  • Contributing to quality clinics, root cause analysis, and scrap reduction projects
  • Designing, procuring, and validating tools and fixtures
  • Managing modifications to the manufacturing bill of materials
  • Updating manufacturing standard work and conducting risk assessments
  • Supporting customer visits and meetings
  • Assisting with first article inspection activities and associated quality requirements
  • Training operations staff and mentoring apprentices
  • Driving Automation and Digitalization initiatives aligned with industry standards
  • Coordinating with various stakeholders and working collaboratively as part of a team

The successful candidate should possess:

  • Experience in aerospace manufacturing, assembly, and test environments
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing concepts and processes
  • Apprentice training with HNC qualification or equivalent experience in Mechanical or Production Engineering
  • Alternatively, a degree in Engineering or Manufacturing
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Familiarity with APQP/PPAP processes or project management experience

It would be advantageous to have:

Knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies

Project Management qualifications such as Prince 2 or APMP

Additional degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or Business Management
