Clinical Head of Occupational Health

We are currently recruiting for the Clinical Head of Occupational Health to work on a permanent, full-time contract with West Midlands Police, based in Birmingham.

The role is primarily office based and hours of work are Monday to Friday however, working outside of normal working outside of standard office hours may be required. There is a requirement to work flexibly at all times with due regard to prevailing workloads and priorities. Attendance at evening and other out-of-hour meetings would also be required & There may be a requirement at times to travel to other locations within the Force area.

The role is paying between £71,841- £78,195 per annum depending on experience.

Role overview:

You will lead a team and deliver an integrated Occupational Health and Wellbeing service for the force, providing excellent care to enable operational delivery whilst ensuring the delivery of an effective, responsive and evidence based strategy.

The Clinical Head of Occupational Health will manage performance, ensure compliance with service levels, KPIs, audit, clinical standards & relevant legislation to name a few along with providing expert advice regarding clinical standards and practice, both within the team and to the wider force. You will undertake complex clinical casework ensuring that you promote the Force strategy whilst managing relationships within the force.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Leading, managing and developing a comprehensive Occupational Health and Wellbeing Service, ensuring the delivery of high-quality standards, aligned to operational need and demand
  2. Provide coaching and mentoring to the Occupational Health and Wellbeing team, creating a professional and supportive environment ensuring that your team have the correct skills, competencies and resource to deliver an effective and efficient service
  3. Have oversight of the clinical caseload of management referrals with the OH clinicians, providing support and guidance as appropriate.
  4. Contribute to the development of the Force Wellbeing Strategy in line with the Force Vision and Values ensuring that it is effectively integrated within the People Strategy
  5. Write, manage and update policies and procedures and standard operating procedures, ensuring the adoption of best practice methodology and thresholds, disseminating to staff across the organisation.
  6. To provide strategic and specialist advice and guidance within People Services and to the Force Executive Team and senior stakeholders, to support Force objectives.
  7. To develop clinical protocols, policies and guidance, to ensure that delivery is in line with the relevant clinical standards and relevant legislation.
  8. To act as the senior professional Force lead to work with relevant external stakeholders e.g. the College of Policing, on the development of Occupational Health and Wellbeing solutions.
  9. Data Manage all data, confidential records and management information, to ensure compliance with medical confidentiality and data protection legislation.
  10. To be responsible for the management and development of all Occupational Health systems to ensure OH information is properly stored, managed and capable of effective reporting.
  11. To undertake relevant benchmarking information to assess June 2024 Version:1.00 and evaluate performance. Design and Delivery
  12. Be responsible for the delivery of all Occupational Health and Wellbeing activity ensuring that it complies with all relevant legislation.
  13. Develop and coordinate standards of Occupational Health practice.
  14. Implement new clinical and operational processes that are consistent with best practice
  15. To be responsible for delivery and compliance of quality management and audit processes.
  16. To deliver a philosophy of excellent customer service Contract Management
  17. To manage all Occupational Health and Wellbeing contracts, including management of KPIs, performance, cost effectiveness etc
  18. To lead on the procurement and provision of all Occupational Health and Wellbeing external business contracts, leading on tenders and contract negotiation.
  19. Be responsible for and have oversight of the Occupational Health and Wellbeing budget.
