Payroll Specialist

Stark Building Materials UK; is a leading building materials distributor in Northern Europe, is on the hunt for a Payroll Specialist who's as passionate about great service as we are.

Hours of Work

37.5 hours per week

Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm or 830am to 530pm

(Hybrid working 3 days in office, 2 from home - flexibility required around Payroll deadlines)

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing payroll for around 1700 monthly paid employees across the STARK UK Companies
  • Pay employees on time and accurately on the specified date, in line with contractual terms and payment frequencies
  • The provision of payroll support and advice to STARK colleagues
  • Apply and validate company and Statutory payments of sickness, maternity and paternity
  • Apply and validate Court Orders across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland legislation
  • Apply and validate incoming P6, P45 and New Starter Checklist (NSC) documents
  • Attend weekly team meetings and huddles to maintain an acceptable standard of service delivery
  • Ensure processes and procedures are adhered to, and maintained, in line with the business controls, internal and external audit procedures
  • Validate any exception and/or error reports for reasonableness
  • Ensure good customer links are forged and maintained, by ownership of an allocated section of the payroll
  • Keep up to date with changes in legislation and best practice to ensure a professional service is always provided
  • Contribute to the production of timely and accurate year end data to H.M. Revenue & Customs (HMRC)
  • Ongoing acquisition support when required for newly acquired businesses
  • Filing of processed paperwork, as and when required
  • Carry out all other administrative duties connected with payroll processing
  • Other duties as and when required

Required Skills and Experience

  • Previous high volume end to end Payroll experience is preferred
  • Ability to complete manual calculations is desirable
  • Previous experience using Workday would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of manual and computerised payrolls, to include all pay methods and frequencies
  • The ability to work to strict and tight deadlines
  • Prior knowledge of payroll and HR systems, both integrated and interface driven
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems and Office products, including file relationships and data import / export techniques
  • Year End and P11D reporting
  • Working knowledge of UK income tax and National Insurance calculations
  • Knowledge of Statutory Payments (SSP/SMP/SPP/SAP)
  • Basic pensions knowledge
  • Knowledge of Court Orders and Student/Postgraduate Loans
  • Experience of company acquisitions and TUPE transfers an advantage
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working on large volume payrolls
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
  • Demonstrate high levels of confidentiality, honesty and integrity
