Package: £42,700 - £58,000 (depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience)

Let us introduce the role

AWE are currently recruiting for Software Analyst Programmers with a good knowledge of PL/1 or other 3GL programming language, or willing to learn PL/1, to enhance / modify a central server application and roll out the fully tested changes.

The candidate will join a small team of Software Analysts/Programmers to undertake all aspects of enhancing the central application and acting as 1st line system support to internal customer's requests.

Who are we looking for?

As a Software Analyst Programmer, you will be expected to:

  • Ensure maximum uptime of the systems to meet agreed customer Service Level Agreements (SLAs) creating daily reports on system health.
  • Provide support to users for day-to-day support of a PL/1 application running on a Stratus Central Computer.
  • Design, code, document, and test system enhancements to the central computer application, on an off-line development simulation suite, to enable the deployment of fully tested software packages to be rolled out to a live system.
  • Participate in code and document reviews within the software group to ensure consistency and high quality standards.
  • Collate, maintain and action a software defect database taking part in review meetings on progress.
  • React to customer enquiries and generate reports and supporting evidence if requested.
  • Maintain and promote high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security and quality and be a great team player.

We need you to have the following

  • BSc or equivalent in a computer science subject coupled with an extensive software development and implementation experience.
  • Willing to apply knowledge of similar 3GL programming language to learn PL/1 programming, full training of PL/1 and any necessary surround technologies will be provided.
  • Capable of dealing with and resolving problems including those arising through interaction with other sections / departments & external customers.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Great attention to detail.
  • Good organisational, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Due to the nature of the role offered here, working from home is not normally possible.
  • Great level of computer literacy including Windows and Linux platforms from command line commands.

You'll need to have the ability to work calmly and constructively in a priority changing environment and be able to manage your own workload. You will also have initiative, enthusiasm, a flexible approach, and ability to work to tight deadlines.

Important things you need to know:

  • You will need to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role. This will be funded by AWE. The nature of our work does mean you need to be a British Citizen who has been resident in the UK for the past 5 years in order to apply for SC clearance and 10 years for DV.

Due to the classified nature of the work involved, there are limited opportunities to work from home in this role. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will spend the majority of their time working on site at AWE Aldermaston.
