About the Role:

We are partnering with a leading commercial butcher based in the Solent, supplying high-quality meat products to hospitality businesses across the South of the UK. Our client is seeking a dedicated and experienced Technical Manager to ensure compliance with food safety standards and to maintain their BRC (British Retail Consortium) AA grade rating. This is a key role for a technically skilled professional with a strong background in the food service sector and experience in regulated environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take ownership of the BRC standard on-site, ensuring full compliance with food safety regulations and maintaining the company's AA grade rating.
  • Oversee all aspects of HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point), ensuring food handling and processing standards are met and adhered to at all times.
  • Lead the preparation for the annual BRC audit, scheduled for January, ensuring all documentation, procedures, and safety protocols are up to date.
  • Ensure that all processes, from production to delivery, are executed according to the highest food safety standards, identifying and correcting any non-compliance issues.
  • Manage and mentor the Technical Assistant, ensuring their tasks align with the company's safety and quality requirements.
  • Regularly review and update food safety processes and systems to ensure they meet evolving industry standards.
  • Collaborate closely with the Operations Manager to align technical operations with overall business objectives.
  • Monitor and report on food safety performance, providing insights and improvements where necessary.
  • Ensure a safe working environment within cold, refrigerated conditions, in compliance with industry health and safety regulations.

Key Competencies:

  • Strong technical background in food safety, preferably within the food service or meat production industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of BRC standards and HACCP principles, with hands-on experience in managing audits and maintaining high-grade certifications.
  • Experience working in a cold, refrigerated environment, ensuring processes adhere to temperature control and safety standards.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and prepare thoroughly for audits.
  • Strong leadership abilities, with experience managing a small technical team and mentoring staff.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, problem-solve, and adapt to regulatory changes.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to maintaining quality standards throughout the operation.
