Secondary DT Technician

Prospero Teaching are looking for someone who is willing and able to work in a Secondary School with machinery and has experience of working with a range of hand tools. Knowledge and experience of using CAD and CAM would be desirable. It will be necessary for the postholder to be certified in the safe use of machinery in the workshop, and training will be provided for the right candidate. The successful candidate will work closely with the Design and Technology teachers to support the department via preparation of materials for teaching and learning, maintain and replenish stock of materials and new equipment, and maintain existing machinery and equipment in the workshops to ensure that pupils are able to work safely.

This is a part-time position, working an 8-hour shift, 16 hours per week.

The duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining adequate levels of stock/materials/equipment for the department
  • Advising pupils on the safe and proper use of tools and equipment, and on the correct and safe way to carry out learning activities (in conjunction with teaching staff)
  • Preparing equipment and materials in classrooms for practical exercises, running trials, demonstrations, and helping pupils with learning activities as appropriate
  • Ensuring that equipment is maintained and in good working order
  • Assisting with the organisation of departmental trips
  • Assisting during Design and Technology lessons when required

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a good working knowledge of Design and Technology
  • Be organised and methodical

  • Be professional, with excellent communication and administration skills

Experience:

  • CAD: 1 year (preferred)
  • CAM: 1 year (preferred)
  • Woodworking: 1 year (preferred)
  • Metalworking: 1 year (preferred)

Hold Right to Work in the UK

Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application

Provide two professional child related references
