Job Title: Teaching Assistant (Non-Verbal Child - PECS and Makaton)

Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join a primary school located in Camden to start in January 2025. The successful candidate will work closely with a non-verbal child, utilising PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) and Makaton to support their communication and learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one support to a non-verbal child, facilitating communication through PECS and Makaton.
- Assist the class teacher in implementing individualised education plans.
- Create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment.
- Monitor and record the progress of the child, adapting support strategies as necessary.
- Collaborate with the SENCO and other staff members to ensure the best outcomes for the child.
- Encourage social interaction and help develop communication and life skills.
- Support the child with any personal care needs as required.
Requirements:
- Previous experience working with non-verbal children and knowledge of PECS and Makaton.
- A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to supporting children with special educational needs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, SEN qualifications) are desirable but not essential.
- A commitment to ongoing professional development.
