Electrical Engineer Intern - Summer Placement Job ID: Location: Lingley Mere Headquarters, Warrington, UK. Role Overview In the Engineering department the successful student will join a large team working on real business projects, carrying out a variety of engineering tasks. There is an opportunity to develop your electrical engineering skills whilst gaining real world experience working alongside technical specialists and operational engineers solving problems that could impact customers and the environment. You will gain an understanding of the wide range of electrical engineering technologies we use within the Water Industry, ranging from at a strategic level Price Reviews or more engineering based High Voltage (HV), renewable energy generation, through to Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) applications. You will benefit from the shared knowledge within the Electrical Engineering Team and expertise of working with colleagues across the wider Engineering disciplines whilst also developing your own specialist skills and providing a valuable contribution to the team. We will help you gain an understanding of the projects being undertaken by United Utilities and the methods used to deliver them. Specific tasks may be assigned during this time. You will be accountable for delivering these with the support of experienced engineers and your line manager. During your 3-month Internship you may also be given the opportunity to visit some of our sites. You'll see how we carefully produce clean safe drinking water and how we treat wastewater in order to release it safely back into the environment. You will also get the opportunity to mix with our current graduates who can share experiences, tips, and guidance with you for the next steps in your career. What we are looking for United Utilities are looking for undergraduate Engineers in their penultimate year of studying an engineering degree. The successful applicant will have an interest in engineering in the water sector. To apply you need to: Have researched and have knowledge of United Utilities' engineering activities. Be working towards at least a 2:1 in an Electrical Engineering degree. Have a strong foundation of maths and science A-levels. Have good computer skills particularly in Microsoft Office. Be motivated and enthusiastic, an excellent team player, possessing ambition and drive Possess good written and interpersonal skills and have the ability to communicate and influence across all levels. Be able to be comfortable working flexibly across a range of tasks and activities to deadlines as well as being able to prioritise your time. We have 8 week, 3 month and 12 month internship programmes across our business. Role Overview In our planning team, you'll have the chance to work alongside a dedicated team of planners, ecologists and landscape architects, who interact across the planning system. Dealing with local plan consultations, consultations regarding individual development proposals, providing planning advice to the wider business and working alongside our engineers to develop planning applications for our own capital programme. During your placement, under the guidance of your mentor and manager, you will gain an overview of the type of work undertaken, moving around the team to gain experience of all relevant aspects. This will give you good working experience of the planning and regulatory system and will also include site visits to see for yourself the type of projects we design and construct.
