Job Title: SC/DV Infrastructure engineer (Solution Support) Location: Aldermaston, Reading. Rate: £600-610 per day Working hours: standard office hours Inside IR35 - Umbrella contractors only ROLE OVERVIEW: We are looking for highly motivated, customer focused and enthusiastic individual to join the On-Prem Infrastructure team. You will have a clear passion for problem solving and delivering excellent 3 rd Line/4 th Line customer support for Server and Storage (Networks and Desktop Workstations on occasion). You will have proven experience of working with Hyper-V. You will be able to work independently or as a team player. You should possess good written and verbal communication skills and be able to work with all support teams and suppliers. You will be able to explain and demonstrate your current experience (both technically and non-technically) as well as pick up and manage projects through to completion. The job will require initiative and someone who can think on their feet as well as deal with multiple issues at once. Good working knowledge of Extreme, Cisco, Dell and HPE switches would be advantageous along with Juniper and palo alto firewalls. This role is strategically important in the continued development of IT Services in an Enterprise Server Management function that will include troubleshooting on all supported platforms. The role will consist of a high amount of projects, breakfix as well as a diverse amount of BAU tasks (inc incidents, changes, problems). Daily tasks will be to ensure live service is not impacted and daily activities and projects can continue with as little to no downtime as possible. They will also consist of finding ways to eradicate future issues and investigate how the solution could be developed/ enhanced. DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION: Day-to-Day Management of the Server Environment including, Performance and system monitoring Patching multiple networks, Image Config/Deployment, Server and Storage support, Hyper-V Administration Config/Management, System Build, File Storage Management and System Administration. HCI troubleshooting and Management Incident, Change and problem Management (BAU) Operational Server Support and can include troubleshooting of Windows, SCOM, SCCM, Storage & Backup environments as part of your team responsibilities. Experience of working in controlled Data Centre environments. Day-to-Day Management of the Environments including troubleshooting, config changes, cabling, and proactive monitoring Day-to-Day Management of the Desktop Environment including troubleshooting, software updates, AV and monitoring Project engagement and deployments along with investigating where the current solution could be developed Solution implementation/design for projects ESSENTIALS SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS: HPE/DELL Hardware array / Storage and MS Storage Spaces Direct 5 Windows 10 /11 experience Windows Server 2016 /2019 /2022 infrastructure experience, OS install and configuration, imaging, Active Directory knowledge, understanding of Group Policies / DNS / DHCP / DFS etc. 3 years of Hyper-V experience implementing and administering enterprise class systems Provide planning, installation, configuring, and upgrading support for vCenter Server and VMWare ESXi Demonstrated experience and strong aptitude for creating documentation of designs and solutions Proficient with disaster recovery concepts, implementation, troubleshooting, and performance tuning is strongly preferred Strong Experience utilizing PowerShell scripting for virtualization automation HCI and Hyper-V management experience (Cluster management experience) DELL/HP Converged infrastructure Server Cloud Azure Infrastructure Trained or knowledge Symantec NetBackup Symantec MFA Technical proficiency in server and storage hardware and software; ability to consult with other IT groups on system designs and support as a recognized technical expert. Good Knowledge and understanding of Microsoft RDS, WSUS, SCCM, and SCOM. Hands on experience of supporting Operational activities, monitoring & troubleshooting in all areas of Windows, Storage and Backup infrastructure and workstations. Understand performance monitoring and be able to produce performance reports. Your key tasks will include: Coordinating and monitoring assessments at our training centres and other locations, ensuring they meet qualification scheme and awarding body standards. Keeping accurate records and reports of verification activities for auditing purposes and providing necessary information to external verifiers to show compliance with quality assurance standards. Working with external verifiers and auditors to maintain our accreditation as an approved training and assessment provider, acting as the centre coordinator. To be considered for this role we'd love you to have: Vocational experience in the power or utilities sector, including highways work. Background in a similar IQA or Instructor Assessor role with experience in quality assurance and verification of accredited qualifications. Working towards a Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Process and Practice, a Level 3 Award in Education and Training, and NRSWA Supervisor Units. Proficiency with IT equipment and Microsoft software for record-keeping and reporting. Good communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team, adapting to a changing workload and prioritising tasks effectively. There will be a requirement to travel within the UK to monitor training and assessment activities.
